Welcome to Baiboo’s new weblog on Chinese confinement.

Although this blog is titled Chinese confinement, most of the practices and taboos starts during pregnancy therefore I have included a pregnancy category in addition to the usual confinement practices. Most of the information available to me was passed to me from my mother who is my mentor and she learnt from her mother and it goes back several generations. Being a familial line of information you may find that the majority of the practices are Hokkien based so do accept my apologies if you do not find other Chinese ethnic groups’ practices but I am sure the information will be equally useful.

I do not profess to know everything about Chinese confinement but I will answer your questions to the best of my ability based on my many years of working with new mothers, to help make your confinement an ‘enjoyable’ experience.

I look forward to your support in making this blog an exciting and interactive experience for you and me. To kick start this blog let me ask you your views on whether you should wash your hair during the confinement month?
