Dear Advisor,
My husband and I have been married for about a year and recently we have plans to have baby. We plan to conceive in month of November. As we r planning a pregnancy, we have been observing a few months’ period cycle. (As to give me some while to get ready myself, to enter another level of life, that is to become a Mother!).
My last period is on 3/9/08 (this month) and ends aroud 7-8/9/08. My period is a 28 days cycle. I have not encounter before the ocassion that i will have early period than 28 days cycle, but to my surprise, i’m having my period so much earlier this month which is less than 28 days! (spot some bleeding since Saturday – 20/9/08).
So my plan to conceive by November has been interupted. My next period (Oct) should be by end Sept or on beg. Oct now, i have no idea whether period will come again in next 2 weeks or not, which is supposed to schedule by end Sept or early Oct.
I’m having a heavy flow period this time. I would like to ask, whether am i going to have period again in the supposed 28 days schedule period, so i would be able to judge my fertile period in order for me to confirm conceive.
(for your info, we do engaged in sexual intercourse in mid of Sept, and to my surprise, after the intercourse, i find myself bleed. A day or two, the spot is getting less and gone. So further from there, i’m not worried about the spot because i thought its normal).
That what worries me now that I couldnt judge my next fertile period, should it follow the first scheduled period comes which is :-
Either end Sept or 1st Oct – 15d later or Mid Sept (now) – 15d later?
I’m totally confused and worried whether will i be able to conceive by November or not.
Highly appreciate your reply in my doubt queries.
Thank you very much. Esther Teng a.k.a Mrs Lee.
Dear Esther,
- The 28-day cycle is an accepted norm but is highly subject to hormonal changes.
- Bleeding can occur on time under normal hormonal balance. But it can occur earlier or later than expected. Your hormones are in-charge.
- Some women have thicker than usual uterus (and thus thicker uterine lining) and will bleed more than others. This sort of bleeding can be controlled by hormone pills (get advice from your clinic).
- Some women have much thinner than usual uterus (and thus thinner uterine lining) and will bleed little compared to others. Little period is an indicator of less likely pregnancy (ie difficult to get pregnant). There are hormone pills to make the uterus suitably thick for a pregnancy to occur (get advice from your clinic).
- Hormonal changes within a women fluctuates and is subject to many things, very often dietary intake and stress.
- Some women bleed monthly (have normal periods) but have no babies for a long time after marriage – the causes are many and can include problematic Fallopian tubes, hormonal imbalance, obesity, etc
- What is recommended for newly weds and couples who want children – have sex daily until there are clear signs of pregnancy. It takes more than just the usual sex to get a baby. Babies don’t come easy nor are they pre-assembled.
- Dietary intake is the #1 reason why ladies don’t get pregnant. Take lots of fruits, vegetables and water if you want to get pregnant.
- Stress is the #2 reason why ladies don’t get pregnant. If you have to rush things, then you are more likely not to get pregnant. Learn to relax and enjoy, minus the stress. A holiday or vacation might work.
- If you have sex close to your next period, tendency is you will not get pregnant, and will bleed.
- If you have sex immediately after your previous period, tendency is you will get pregnant, and not bleed.
- You actually don’t have to know when your next period is coming but plan on having sex immediately after your next period. That way, you should be able to get pregnant quite easily.
- After you have sex, and if you want a pregnancy, then don’t get up immediately to wash up. Lay in bed for at least 10 minutes for the sperm to find the right egg. If you get up soon after sex, it is more likely that the sperms will all flow out, and little sperms remain within your uterus or Fallopian tube for fertilization to occur. In the end, you don’t have a pregnancy. Give yourself a lot of time for sex and after sex.
- Bleeding after each time you have sex is a sign that the cervix or vaginal lining (walls) are terribly hurt. Make sure you have enough lubricant cover. Don’t use spermicidal cream or you will kill the sperms. You can get the gel/cream from your clinic. That way you won’t bleed after sex.
