BaiBoo’s comment

‘When and What To Feed My Baby’ is a practical recipe book for moms in Malaysia. It’s best feature is the language, since it’s bilingual and the English is easy to understand. The book provides you with the knowledge of which nutrients your child needs, and what sources you can get them from.
The recipes are easy to prepare; the average preparation time is 10-15 minutes. All recipes in the book have been tested, so there’s a great chance your child will love them too. Most recipes provide an indication on when your baby may be willing to try it. We expect that especially first time mothers will find the recipes useful.

BaiBoo’s comment

Complete baby & childcare does honor it’s name, it is a very complete book with a lot of valuable information. Everything you need to know about your child, from birth up to 5 years of age, is in the book. It contains lots of photo’s to clearify what’s written and the colors used make it a suitable parenting book.
The way to navigate through the book is by color, they show which chapter belongs to which stage of the babie’s life. The register in the back can also be used to find what you are looking for. This book is more of an encyclopedia for parenting than a reading book for young parents, the information in it is very practical and accurate.

Content in short

Asian Parenting Today specifically addresses the issues and concerns of modern Asian parents. They are often faced with the quandary of either subscribing to western practices or following the traditional customs of their mothers and grandmothers before them. This book addresses many of the very common childcare issues that parents today face, with special emphasis on and respect to Asian cultural beliefs and practices. More than just an indispensable parenting compendium for modern parents in the first year of baby’s life, Asian Parenting Today also provides real-life questions and practical, realistic solutions for new parents to help make their parental experience an enjoyable, stress-free one.

Highlights

FAQ’s are presented by topic; so whenever a question comes to mind it’s answered right away.

Confinement rules and misunderstandings are discussed.

Every chapter ends with practical tips and tricks.

Checklists for your baby’s progress, for each stage of age and development.

Baby Safe at the end of the book is very handy; the local nursery rhymes are nice.

BaiBoo’s comment

Asian Parenting Today is an excellent book for new moms and dads. The book provides you with information stage by stage, which makes it easier to understand what’s happening. The contents in the book are a good guideline to find what you’re looking for and the FAQ’s on each topic are the ones you were just going to wonder about yourself.
Though, the book only covers the first year of your parenthood and it is very much about the baby and not so much about the parents. This makes it very. For information about the mother or parent side of it you will need to look elsewhere. It’s not a story-telling book, but clearly a very practical guide with plenty of facts and figures. It will tell you everything you want to know in the first months of parenthood. We feel it’s a must-have as a reference guide with straightforward insights and information.

The sooner a father really gets into parenting, the bigger the chance that he will stay ‘in the groove’ for the coming years, even decades. Show him that you know that your baby is being raised by a partnership, you and him. Show him that you cannot and will not do it alone. Read and discuss parenting books together, go shopping for baby items together, go to pregnancy and birthing classes together. After birth, actively involve the father in daily baby routines, let him change diapers, feed, bathe.

Pre natal bonding is a positive way to stimulate your baby. There are different ways that are fun to do and may stimulate both the growth as well as the intelligence of your baby.

1. Touch: Lightly stroke your tummy from below up to your belly button. As you are stroking your baby you can softly talk to him/her also. If you touch or stroke your tummy after your baby kicks, you can teach your baby that his/her movement brings a change in her environment. Around 28 weeks you can ask your doctor to indicate the position of your baby, so you can stroke from head to toes.

2. Music: By 5 months the baby’s brain is fully functioning and the ears are wide open. Research shows that the baby’s heart rate increases during the first couple of minutes of listening to music. It is suggested to listen to music for 5 minutes at least twice a day. Listen to music you love and that makes you feel good. Avoid hard rock and similar loud genres. Classical music (Mozart, Vivaldi) is always a good choice.

3. Talk: In the second half of your pregnancy your baby can hear, see, feel and even experience movement. Speak to your baby often; he or she can feel the vibration of your voice and hears you at increased loudness. Your baby is most allert from 8pm to midnight, so use that time to really speak to your baby. Include the father so your baby can also start to recognize his voice. Research shows that if this is done daily, your baby will recognize both voices immediately after birth.
